Woman Remanded Over Alleged Murder and Robbery of Roommate

Patricia Rose Turindwamukama, a self-employed resident of Mukalazi Zone, Bukoto I Parish in Nakawa Division, has been remanded to Luzira Prison over charges linked to the alleged murder and robbery of her friend and roommate, Jovia Namuwulya.

Turindwamukama appeared before Senior Principal Grade One Magistrate Nicholas Aisu at the City Hall Court in Kampala, where she was charged alongside another suspect who is still at large. Prosecution alleges that the two caused Namuwulya’s death with malice aforethought on the night of August 20, 2026, in Mukalazi Zone.

She is also accused of robbing Namuwulya of an iPhone 12 Pro Max valued at Shs2 million, a cream-white bag worth Shs150,000, three items of clothing valued at Shs200,000 and a passport. Prosecutors allege that a knife was used during the robbery before Namuwulya was killed.

The charges were read to Turindwamukama, but she did not enter a plea because murder and aggravated robbery are capital offences that are beyond the jurisdiction of the Magistrates’ Court. Magistrate Aisu advised her to seek bail from the High Court, which has jurisdiction over bail applications involving capital offences.

Prosecutor Mercy Yamangusho told court that investigations were still ongoing and asked that Turindwamukama remain in custody as police continued with their inquiries. The magistrate subsequently remanded her to Luzira Prison until September 22, 2026, when she is expected to return to court for mention of the case.

Police said Turindwamukama was arrested on August 24, four days after the alleged incident, at a friend’s house in Mbuya, Nakawa Division. Preliminary investigations reportedly indicate that she was preparing to leave Uganda for Iraq and had applied for an Iraqi visa on August 21, a day after Namuwulya was allegedly killed.

The allegations against Turindwamukama remain subject to court proceedings, and the other suspect is still being sought by police.
