01 Who we are
This policy describes how StreamUG radio (“we”, “us”) handles information when you use the Stream UG Radio mobile app on Android or iOS, and when you visit streamugradio.ug. The app lets you listen to our live stream, browse the programme, news, events, podcasts, and shop, message the studio, and join the newsletter.
You do not need an account. There is no sign-in. Station promotions may appear in the app; we do not use third-party advertising networks or advertising identifiers.
02 Information we collect
We collect only what the app and site need to run the station and to understand what listeners use.
| What | When | Where it lives |
|---|---|---|
| Message Studio — name, email, subject, and message | Only if you send a message from the app or website | Our servers, so the studio can reply |
| Newsletter — email address | Only if you subscribe | Our servers, to send the list you asked for |
| Anonymous install ID — a random ID created on first launch. It is not your phone number, IMEI, Advertising ID, or any hardware serial. It resets if you uninstall the app. | Automatically, while you use the app | On your device, and sent with listening and boot events |
| Listening activity — a heartbeat about every 30 seconds while audio is playing, with platform and the programme id on air at the time | While you listen | Our servers |
| Push token — a Firebase Cloud Messaging token so we can send station notifications if you allow them | After you grant notification permission | On your device (Firebase) and on our servers |
| Station promotions — impressions and taps on in-app banners and pop-ups we publish | When those items are shown or opened | Our servers, as counts — not an ad profile |
| Cached station content — programme, news, events, and app configuration, kept for a short time so screens still load offline | When the app fetches updates | On your device |
The live audio itself is delivered by our streaming host. Like any internet radio session, that host necessarily sees the IP address of the device requesting the stream. Our website host may record standard request logs (pages visited, browser type) to keep the site secure.
03 What we do not collect
Collected
Studio messages and newsletter sign-ups you send, anonymous listening stats, push tokens if you allow notifications, and promotion counts.
Not collected
Location, contacts, photos, microphone, payment details, government IDs, or advertising identifiers.
The app does not request microphone, storage, or location permissions. We do not sell your information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.
04 How we use information
- To play the live stream and show current programmes, news, and events.
- To deliver studio notes and newsletter mail so we can respond or send what you asked for.
- To understand which shows people actually listen to, so we can improve the schedule and the app.
- To send station notifications if you allow them.
- To count how station promotions perform, without building an advertising profile.
05 Sharing and third parties
We share information only as needed to operate the service:
- Our hosting providers store contact forms, newsletter sign-ups, and analytics events we send to our API.
- Our streaming provider receives the technical connection needed to deliver audio (including IP address).
- Firebase (Google) delivers push notifications if you allow them.
- Apps you open from Stream UG Radio — phone, WhatsApp, Instagram, X, TikTok, or your browser — are governed by those services’ own policies. We only hand them the number or URL you tapped.
We may disclose information if required by Ugandan law or a valid legal process, or to protect the station, our listeners, or the public.
06 Retention and security
Studio messages and newsletter addresses are kept as long as we need them to handle your request and run the list. Listening events are kept so we can understand listenership; the anonymous install ID lasts until you uninstall the app. Cached content expires on a short timer and can be cleared by uninstalling.
We transmit API traffic over HTTPS. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure. If you think something has gone wrong, email us.
07 Your rights
Depending on where you live — including under Uganda’s Data Protection and Privacy Act, 2019 — you may ask us to access, correct, or delete personal information we hold about you, or to object to certain uses. Message Studio and the newsletter are the places we hold a name and email that can identify you. For that, write to us from the same address you used.
Because listening stats use a random install ID, we cannot reliably match that ID back to you unless you still have the app installed and can help us identify the install. Uninstalling the app deletes the ID from the device.
You can turn notifications off in the system notification controls. You can stop listening analytics by closing the player; we do not offer a separate in-app analytics switch today.
08 Children
The app is a public radio service, not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child sent us a studio message or subscribed to the newsletter, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy in a material way, we will update this page and the “effective” date above. Continued use of the app after a change means you accept the updated policy.
